HD HYUNDAI The road to HILLHEAD
As the industry turned its eyes to the Hillhead Quarry Show in Derbyshire, HD Hyundai Construction Equipment made a bold statement:
“Big is Coming.”
With the largest stand at the event and the unveiling of its most powerful machines to date, Hillhead 2024 marked a significant milestone for the company.
In the lead-up to the event, we documented the incredible journey of the HX1000A L, a 100-tonne crawler excavator. This machine signified HD Hyundai’s move into a new sector of the UK and European markets, delivering high-performance solutions for mining, quarrying, bulk earthmoving, and heavy civil engineering applications.
The video content series we produced tells more than just the story of a machine in transit. It captures a complex logistical operation—from the HX1000A L’s arrival at Tilbury Docks to its multi-day journey north to Derbyshire. It was a demonstration of coordination, planning, and persistence—bringing to life something that, at times, felt nearly impossible.
Bringing this ambitious project to life required seamless collaboration and communication with multiple stakeholders, including Port Authorities, various Police forces, the Highways Agency, and Lynch Transport.
The operation and the process of capturing the footage was not without challenges. Unpredictable British weather caused delays in port access and unloading. Traffic congestion and motorway restrictions made progress slow, and the sheer size of the convoy meant it was often difficult to reposition and get back ahead of the load to capture the right shots.
Thanks to meticulous planning, agile teamwork, and sheer determination, we successfully tracked and filmed the entire journey through a combination of drone, camera operators at key vantage points along the route, multiple action cameras mounted on both the transport vehicle and HX1000A L, and car-to-car filming from support vehicles. Every angle, every challenge, and every moment was captured as the HX1000A L made its way to be assembled on-site at Hillhead.
This was a project where teamwork truly made it happen—and the results are every bit as big and bold as the machine itself.
